Both candidates were a bit unsteady articulating their thoughts throughout the first half of the second presidential debate. However, both candidates had outstanding answers on foreign policy.
McCain's best moment... it was clear that McCain was best prepared to talk about Russia. His answer was clear and concise (more so than any of his other answers) - and served as damage control for Sarah Palin's recent, bumbling answers about Russia and Putin rearing his head over Alaska.
Obama's best moment... Obama clearly scored a knockout during the most contentious part of the debate related to Pakistani sovereignty. McCain said "talk softly, but carry a big stick" and suggested that Obama was disclosing sensitive military strategies with Pakistan. Obama firmly stated that when found in Pakistan, Osama Bin Laden will be killed by Pakistan or killed by the US. The Obama knockout came when he made a mockery of McCain's "talk softly" comment. "Sen. McCain, is the guy who sang, 'Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran,' who called for the annihilation of North Korea. That I don't think is an example of 'speaking softly.' This is the person who, after we hadn't even finished Afghanistan said, 'Next up, Baghdad.'"
Obama clearly won this debate. What are your thoughts?

Jay

Jay - Any dolt who thinks that "the computer was originally invented by a bunch of government scientists", is CLEARLY unfit for command - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQJ1kIDQlfM
Why is it that Lefties believe that Government is the answer to everything?
Jay - Any dolt who believes that, "the computer was originally invented by a bunch of government scientists", is so far out of touch with reality that they are CLEARLY unfit for command - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQJ1kIDQlfM
Why is it that Lefties put so much faith and trust in Government?
Sorry for the double post - I got the dreaded proxy error, and it didn't appear that the first comment made it through.
Jeff, if you do not consider the U.S. Military to be part of the government, then no the government didn't have much to do with the development of the computer.
Jeff, Obama simply misspoke and said "computer" when he should have said "internet". I'll take that versus the poisonous policies that McCain stands for that will do everything to continue the downward spiral this country is in.
I just can't believe that people don't realize that the true economic engine is empowering the middle class.
Obama WON hands Down. GAME OVER!!!!!
Jay - Nice try, but the genius said, "Invented" (play the YouTube clip for yourself), which is far different that "having much to do with".
This is something I know a fair amount about. My dad spent his whole career designing and programming computers - mostly large, mainframes. He, along with Seymour Cray and others were on the team widely credited with building the world's first successful supercomputers -several times faster than #2 IBM's best - and this was before Cray struck out on his own to found Cray Research.
Jeff, I see your point - Obama is a bad man because of a technicality.
Jay - you are being less than honest here. Just last night you were on my BALLANCED post about that simply terrible debate. Now you are talking about Obama and knock out blows?? Come on man. I have no problem with you being for "your guy", but be honest about it. It was a terrible debate; there were no knock out blows; the audience was on Meth or something similar, and Tom got his panties in a knot about time.
Simon, my post on your blog was about the audience, not the candidates. McCain's strong suit was supposed to be military and foreign policy. The McCain/Obama exchange following the question I mentioned above was a turning point (KO).
Jay, It doesn't really matter who won or wins debates. What matters is the perception of who won. The American people clearly perceive Obama the winner by a huge majority. Perception is reality. The reality is Obama will win the election.
Jay - I can hear the "morbidly obese woman" warming up!
Always good for a 'good read'........no need of 'comedy channel'.......what was 'clear as day' for me was obviously 'clear as mud' for others.......the magic of perspective!
