Yesterday, Sarah Palin answered a few questions on KUSA. A third grader sent a question for the interview - "what does the vice president do?" According to Palin (see the video below), a VP is "in charge of the US Senate so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes."
Had Palin learned the Constitution of the United States or simply read Article I, Section 3 - she would have known that this assertion is wrong. The Constitution states that "the Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no vote, unless they be equally divided."
Here's my question - does anyone think that Palin has ever read the Constitution?
Best regards,
Jay

Hhhmmm...5 colleges in 6 years. (just sayin)
Her name is Sarah Palin and she is NOT smarter than a third grader. DUH!!!!!!
Yes, and Joe Biden says he thinks the VP doesn't do anything...you liberals are sunk by the tongue of Joe Biden, who even thinks Barak Obama is not qualified in his own words. Nice try, Jay.
Misinformation is not truth, even if Barak Obama and Joseph Biden says it so.
Nicholas, what would possess Palin to say such a thing?
Jay -
Sorry, but it is you who are wrong here, not Palin. You are correct that Article 1, Section 3, states, "The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no vote, unless they be equally divided." But that is all it says - nothing more, and nothing less - with respect to the VP's Senate role.
And while there is a tradition in the Senate that the Vice President not use his or her position as President of the Senate to influence the passage of legislation or act in a partisan manner, there is nothing in law to prevent her (or him) from doing so.
It's easier to imagine the type of role the VP is entitled to take, and could take - should he or she wish to take a more active part than we've seen traditionally - by looking at the typical actions, behaviors and practices of the person who routinely stands in for the VP, when the VP isn't present in the Senate. That would of course be the Senate President pro tempore - the position currently held by Bobby "KKK" Byrd, Democrat (WV).
Other than not having a vote, except to break a tie, Palin would be 100% within her rights to do everything else that Cheney's stand-in (Bobby "KKK" Byrd), routinely does in the Senate - and more. I'd love to see her get in there and tweak some noses, and kick some butt - and she would have every right - legally - to do so.
Jay -
Just to amplify my comment above, from here - http://www.senate.gov/reference/glossary_term/president_pro_tempore.htm
president pro tempore - A constitutionally recognized officer of the Senate who presides over the chamber in the absence of the Vice President.
So, if Palin is VP, and chooses to be present in the Senate, she presides, and other than the stipulation that she not vote, excepting to break a tie, she has a whole lot of latitude - legally - to shake things up.
Palin Still Doesn't Know What the VP Does
And I hope to God she never gets the chance to find out either!
I almost choked on my coffee when I heard her statements. This woman scares the hell out of me. Considering McCain's age and health conditions, a vote for McCain is a vote for President Palin!
I can't believe how many women will vote for her just because she's a woman! Planned Parenthood called me the other day to let me know that they are endorsing Obama. I told them that I was too. The PP spokesperson was pleased to hear it and advised that the McCain camp gets a 0 from them for their stance (past voting record and plans) on women's reproductive issues. THIS WAS THE LOWEST SCORE ANY CANIDATE EVER RECEIVED FROM THEM! Remember that women's reporductive health issues includes birth control, family planning, gyn care, etc.
She doesn't understand what the VP does or that the GOP's mascot is an elephant. Look at the scarf Palin wore yesterday - "vote" and donkeys!
Jay- I was sooooo tempted to add that photo in a comment...You can't make this stuff up! LOL!
Jay - What's really funny about her scarf is that the RNC paid for it! LOL
The scarf is bizarre to the point that Tina Fey couldn't have written it.
I think it is admirable how she is already reaching across the aisle. I wonder if our fore fathers thought it would be so politically reckless to wear a scarf that says just vote, no matter which party, just vote. Yeah, she is way out there.
You all have some real issues with this woman. May I suggest counseling?
Joe, the GOP spent $150,000 on Palin's clothes for a few weeks of campaigning.
When you have a scarf, t-shirt, hat or anything else that features both the word "vote" and a party mascot - that translates to voting for the party whose mascot is featured. Palin wore a scarf that promoted voting for Obama's party.
Jay- Don't bother trying to explain it....I don't think Republicans know what funny is anymore. (sigh)
I am gonna laugh on this one for a while, until and if I can come up with an appropriate response.... Holy shit crap almighty....:-)
Ummmm.......she's encouraging people to get out and vote for anyone??!! Please. She says Obama is friends with terrorists. Nice try Joe. Blindly following someone suggests a need for counseling. :)
Hi Jay. Nothing this woman says surprises me anymore. I want to thank her for making it clear to most Republicans I know that voting for her and McCain would be a huge mistake.
Seems to me after she answered the VP role better than Biden in the debate, that she adjusted her verbiage because she was talking to a 3rd grader! She has kids, you know, and is probably used to adjusting her vocabulary and explanations when explaining things to her kids. Oh, we still have a sense of humor - maybe she's wearing the scarf because she got a good laugh after hearing a clip from Howard Stern's show the other day, where his survey on the street found there are people that are voting for Obama and think his choice of Sarah Palin is great and she'll be a good VP!
Jay, i always learn something from you. There are some very smart people who govern or want to govern but they lack one thing. Common sense. I think Palin has a lot more of that than most.
BeBLessed
John March
John, would her scarf not be enough to at least question her common sense?
Jay -
Not to worry - all those donkeys on her scarf are either Reagan-Bush-Bush-McCain Democrat donkeys, or Hillary's PUMA donkeys, and many are both.
